The program I'm in is a 12 step and in order to move forward you have to actually work these steps, novel I know.
I have felt like I've done the first 3 for months now, but I never went over them with my sponsor so while I've done them, I haven't officially "done them".
Until today. I set up a phone meeting with my sponsor and we went through steps 1-3 and now I'm cleared for 4. Which she said that one took her a year. With my track record it might take me that long too.
What are these steps? I know I'm being vague and that's rude. I'm going to paraphrase.
1. Admitted I was powerless and life was not manageable.
2. Came to believe that only God could restore my sanity
3. Chose to hand my life and will over to God.
The next step will be an inventory of me. Which will be interesting. As we were talking I realized just how much has changed. I was encouraged. Last week was not an easy week but this week has been significantly better.
I have to remember that change is happening. It might not be in the time frame I would want but it is happening. I'm thankful for my program. Thankful for my sponsor. Slowly but surely I'm learning. I know that I have things to work on and I know that I'm not the only one changing and growing. I have to remember to give credit and appreciate the changes, both in me and in others.

I've read a number of your posts about Ai-Anon...I can't find anywhere you actually discussed alcoholism...?
I thought you were part of AA due to your husband, but I didn't realize you would have the sponsor if that were the case.
Al-anon is for family and friends of those affected by the disease of addiction. So I have a sponsor and I work the steps in a different way but I do work them. It helps me because I'm finally dealing with me and my stuff.
That's interesting! I didn't know that either!
