Response and a bit of a vent

I received an email yesterday evening from Joe. "I just don't get it. Mail the things any time." So I did in fact blindside him with this.

I'd not heard from him since Thursday afternoon. That's all day Friday, all day Saturday and I sent my email yesterday morning before church, so around 8:30. This says to me that he was predictably following the pattern that I've seen before that I believed from the begining he would follow.

Initially, texting, emailing, wanting to call and talk on the phone. Constant communication. Sent flowers after the first date, very cute little snowman arrangement that was appreciated. Maintaining a constant stream of texts and emails, I don't like to talk on the phone therefor I did not agree to phone conversations.

Planning the Vegas trip, asking me what I wanted to do and telling me that as time goes on he won't always spend money like this. He started the contract job close by and I saw him on a regular basis. This is when I noticed the fact that he would not wait for me to sit down before he started eating. I also started including his laundry in mine as early as new years weekend. What I have not mentioned to this point is in addition to the sink full of dishes clothes were left in the bathroom. When we had the I'm not your maid house keeper conversation he apologized for that saying that he didn't know where the hamper was. Even after this conversation I still would find clothes left int he bathroom.

When you have only just started dating someone, it's not a good sign that they are already displaying these behaviors. I lived with CF&G. For all his faults living with him, he cooked often, cleaning was a team effort, and he didn't like how I loaded the dishwasher so he always did it. (I handwash all my dishes and rarely use my own dishwasher). I know that everyone is different but even setting the standard at CF&G's level is not setting it that high.

Joe's communication with me had noticeably lessened since our Vegas trip. I had been trying to determine if this was because he knew something was up or he was following the pattern of behavior I've seen before. Apparently it was the latter. He must have believed that he "had" me therefor he did not need to contact me as often. While I had plans to break up with him and this time around I could have cared less; had I still been into him and his communication had slacked off that much I would have been upset.

When I dated M3 he blew up my phone with text messages to the tune of a phone bill that was close to $400. Yes I changed my phone plan after that. The next month he continued to be consistent in his communication. Then suddenly a flip switched and I quit hearing from him. I caught flack and criticism for being too needy. The reality I don't know how to go from hearing from someone all the time to having no idea what is going on in their life because they no longer feel the need to contact me.

For all S's faults and I don't like him at all I will say that he as good about the phone call every night and the text message in the morning and afternoon. I didn't like talking on the phone but we talked for at least a few minutes every night. This lasted the 8 months that we dated. So I know it's possible.

There has got to be some kind of happy medium. In the statistics of my relationships I'm usually the one initiating the break up so this leads me to wonder where I'm making the mistake? Where is the flaw in me that I'm missing that keeps allowing me to date guys who are just so wrong? How in the world do I figure it out?

Down time, work, run that finally happened

Friday night was wonderful!!!! I did clean the bathroom after I got home to get that out of the way. Then I enjoyed an evening of reading a book and lounging with Jack.

Saturday I got up and ran 4 miles. The weather was beautiful!!! Because I only ran 4 I was able to take Jack with me and he loved it!! I came to the conclusion that because I had only run 2 miles a week and 2 days before I did not need to try and run 6 miles. I'm feeling the 4 I ran yesterday so I know I made the right decision. I also know I'll be just fine next Saturday at my 5K.

Saturday after my run I had enough energy for laundry and putting laundry away and then I had to work. We had 350, which was 23 less then the week before. The reason being, a lot of our 9pm or later reservations did not show up. The previous Saturday our later reservations kept the reservation. It was a good night and I never went on a wait for tables which I love!!

This morning I broke up with Joe. He gets no cell reception at his house and his house phone is out of commission so I ended up just sending a very nice email. I explained that I thought a lot about it and just believe that we are too different. I told him he is a wonderful guy and knowing that he would like to be married before he is 40 it is not fair to continue to date him and keep him from meeting the right girl for him. I'm glad that's done! I hadn't heard from him since Wednesday afternoon so either he knew it was coming or he just didn't feel the need to contact me. If it's the latter then that definitely reinforces my decision to end this one. I just never could warm up to him and I tried but it just was not going to happen.

Church this morning was amazing!!! I went to Forest Hills and the message was just incredible!! I'm thinking I may go back for a while. I've been attending the church I grew up in for a few years but the service lasts over 2 hours. With my schedule Sunday is my only free day. I don't begrudge the time but I also only have 1 free day and I appreciate having the downtime!

Hope everyone has had a fabulous weekend!!

work, weekend, reality, randomness

Last night at the restaurant we had over 300 people, on a Thursday…. 100 of those guests were part of a private party that bought out our lounge. This made seating tricky, we had no where for people to wait and no place for guests who did not have a reservation.

I have tonight off. I have told EVERYONE who asks me about my weekend that I have the evening all to myself. I suppose it's kind of sad that I am this excited over an evening of downtime. Naturally there are chores that need to be done. I'm still debating on whether or not I will attempt any of them tonight.

It's an interesting feeling to be resigned to the fact that I might not meet anyone I want to marry. It's like a weight has been lifted. I don't want to resign myself to being someone's housekeeper or maid. Despite past statements I'm not a gold digger just looking for an open bank account. And honestly after reading poop whisperer today I'm feeling pretty confident that I can go through life without being pregnant and be perfectly ok with it!! I'm not a mom but I do love that blog, it's fabulous!! Hearing about real life kid stuff from real life mom's is eye opening and helps me keep things in perspective. Because if I'm going to go through pregnancy I had better REALLY REALLY REALLY love my husband. That said the guy will have to really love me because I can't imagine I would be an easy pregnant person to deal with.

I'm out the door and so excited to start my weekend!!! Happy Friday everyone!!!

Versatile Blogger thank you Jen!

Thank you Jen :) Jen at What Would Jen Do has awarded me the Versatile Blogger Award!!
The rules for this award are:
Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them in your post
Tell us seven things about yourself
Award 15 recently discovered new bloggers
Contact these bloggers and let them know they’ve received the award(s)
So THANK YOU very much Jen!!!!
1. I read all kinds of blogs, single women, married women, mom's, runners, food, weight loss, I really enjoy reading and learning from other bloggers.
2. I know that I'm going to break up with the current boyfriend and I'm struggling with how and when to do this. I know that the writing is on the wall but I feel bad because I know he fell hard for me and it's going to hurt him when I end it.
3. I ran 3 1/2 marathons in 2010, I might run 1 in 2011 but I'm not sure yet. It's only January so I have some time.
4. I spoil my dog, and so does my mom. This means his manners are atrocious. He begs when we are at the table and jumps for food if I'm standing up. He also growls at me if I'm sitting on the couch but not giving him the attention he wants. If I ever have children I will have to do a much better job of being consistent and firm then how I am with my dog.
5. For the most part I don't mind having 2 jobs. The restaurant does an amazing job of working with my schedule. I sometimes wish I didn't work 2 jobs so I could work out more but whether or not this would actually happen is debatable.
6. With ever part of me I thought I met the guy I was going to marry in October and then he dropped me like a hot potato. I still wonder how I could have been so off the mark and now I question how I'm ever going to know. It's all right though I'm ok if it never happens.
7. I love wearing makeup!! I play around all the time. I use 3 mascaras everyday and this is the longest part of my makeup routine.
Now I'm supposed to contact 15 bloggers I've recently discovered. Due to my limited access because of work I'm going to have to go with if you want to play along consider yourself tagged. I really miss the days of being able to click and read!!!! I also REALLY miss commenting and I'm working to remember to come back and comment.

Solutions, Diversions, Football and Time to myself

Thank you so much for the ideas to get rid of the headache. I did neck stretches and I plan to go and purchase a humidifier tomorrow. I was in bed at 8 last night. While this helped the pain tremendously I'm fighting the annoying voice that is now screaming at me that I'm going to gain too much weight because I haven't been sticking to any kind of gym or workout routine.

At work I'm enjoying having enough that I look busy but not enough that I can't keep up with google reader and enjoy various other internet diversions. The downside to the time to enjoy other internet diversions is the huge temptation to shop. So many places to buy so many things it's hard to resist!! I get a new underwriter March 1 and then I will actually be swamped all the time, not excited about this prospect but I look at it as job security. I interviewed for a job within the company in December and I have not been called back for a second interview. I have not followed up and I've decided not to. The position I currently have is a more secure position then the position that I interviewed for as far as measurable results. I can unequivocally show that I excelled in my current position because of xyz, the other position would be more sales based results and with the current market that is just not a great way to be reviewed or held accountable for results.

My bosses boss is in town and is a huge HUGE Steelers fan. It's so entertaining to have her in the office. In our meeting yesterday she had on the Steelers lanyard and there was the whole production of having Steelers pencils, notepad, mug, etc. Due to numerous boyfriends being football worshippers, plus App has done really well the past several years; I've come to appreciate the game. Different boyfriends have pulled for different teams and I generally just watch for the enjoyment of being lazy. While they watch I read or play on the internet half paying attention to what is happening. The ex-boyfriends who I don't like, I usually pull for the team who is playing against that team.

I have no ties to Wisconsin and no ex-boyfriends who I don't like who were Steelers fans so the decision on which team to cheer for this year for the Super Bowl is the Steelers. Provided I actually watch the big game. I am in Pittsburgh at least once a year to visit my family there. My Aunt L speaks highly of quite a few of the Steelers players. I know he's full of himself and made awful personal choices but Roethlisberger is an amazing QB. I hadn't really thought about this until yesterday. JM introduced me to a blog that I read for entertainment. It's a guy's blog and for a lot of it I should be completely offended but I work in restaurants and because of that I am not easily offended by anything. Here's the link but be warned if you are easily or not even easily offended you will be offended. The writer is from Boston so it's no wonder I find such enjoyment reading, despite not being able to successfully date Yankee boys I do enjoy their accents, attitudes and irreverence. Yes I know it's wrong but there's a side of my personality that gets me in trouble and my liking this blog is that side of my personality… Anyways he pointed out on his blog that despite Roethlisberger's bad decisions and bad behavior he is a QB who shows up and gets the job done, every single time.

Tonight I'm in for another crazy evening at the restaurant. On top of being restaurant week both the private dining rooms are booked and we have a party that has bought out our lounge area. It's going to be interesting but the good part is I don't have to close. There will be 2 of us tonight and my Co-Hostess has already agreed to close for me. Tomorrow is Friday and I actually have a Friday night that will be ALL MINE!!!! I'm so excited!!!

What makes a headache go away???

Remember last week when I did the whole post on getting back on the workout wagon and how I had managed to lose weight and I was so happy... Then I didn't run Saturday, because I slept. I didn't run Sunday although I did walk Jack.

Monday night I had a headache that was making me nauseous, and it's still with me. I had to work last night and fought dizzy spells the entire time. Tonight the idea of going home and cleaning the bathroom and going to the gym makes me exhausted just thinking about it. I can't believe that running would help my head feel better and quite frankly I don't think my fellow gym members would appreciate seeing me lose my lunch by trying to run. My head feels like it's going to explode on my desk.

I have a 5K the first weekend in February, that means next Saturday… I only ran 2 miles last Thursday. I know the course, it's a lot of hills. I had planned to train for these hills so I would have a decent time. Now I just plan to run it and get it over with.

My mom says it might be the weather that is causing my head to hurt and a few others have commented that this might be it as well. I have noticed a lot of tension in my neck so it could be that I've gone too long between chiropractor visits. I have an appointment next Thursday!

Because my head hurts I keep thinking if I eat it will help and I've eaten this week to the point where I have a feeling any of the weight I lost has jumped back on again. I've avoided the scale because it's just too depressing to see the movement in the wrong direction again. Before Vegas, despite the snow, I managed to do a really good job of controlling my food intake. While in Vegas I ate but I was very cautious. This week in order to try and shake the headache I've eaten whatever I can put my hands on hoping that it will help. The ironic thing is not that long ago I was thinking how fortunate I am that I rarely have headaches. I must have jinxed myself!

Tonight I plan to go home, change clothes and go to bed. Hopefully by Friday I will feel more like myself so I can get the bathroom cleaned. Then I will run Saturday and Saturday night I have to be at the restaurant for the last big night of restaurant week.

On a positive note I just ordered several books from Amazon that were used but shipped by Amazon so I got the super saver shipping. I'll be posting on how this works out and what condition the books are in!! The best part they were all $4 or less!!

What's your style?

I did not make the gym tonight. It wasn't even laziness. The headache that I had all afternoon turned ugly to the point where it almost made me sick. So no running or cleaning but sleeping did help. I'm going through trying to remember to leave comments since I love all your comments so much. I used to always leave comments then my work internet blocked most blogs and now I read most blogs through google reader which I'm thankful for, but I am not able to leave comments. I very much appreciate the comments on the post about Joe, y'all are so awesome!!!
As I was going through I came across this quiz. Belle at The Tale of a Southern Belle found it thru this blog and it looked like so much fun I wanted to play too!!!

278, 378, lethargic, running plan and please no more snow

Friday I mentioned that restaurant week was starting. Our count for people/covers on Friday night was 278. A normal Friday evening is 150-200 people. I did not have to be in charge of where guests went, I just had to seat people. It made the manager nervous that I was not in charge but sometimes you have to let the other hostesses have the opportunity to run a big night. In my opinion my co-hostess did a fantastic job.

I did have to close on Friday night because the co-hostess who ran the door usually closes for me. Her boyfriend is a server and usually they have to stay till after close anyways. Friday night they did not so I stayed till just after 11, when the restaurant closes.

I was supposed to have my power steering fixed on Saturday morning at 10 but I called and rescheduled the appointment. I was going to try for that 6 mile run, it didn't happen either. I slept until it was time to get ready for work. I'm not sure if I was trying to catch up on sleep from the Vegas trip, or if I was fighting off some kind of bug but I was exhausted!! The one chore I got done Saturday was vacuuming my house (condo).

Saturday I had to be at the restaurant at 4pm. When I arrived we had close to 400 people/covers on the book. The night ended at, I believe, 378 covers. With the restaurant week menu it's 3 courses and you're done. This means that tables turn over faster because usually it takes about an hour for 2 people to eat when they order the preset menu. I knew that it was going to be a fast paced, challenging evening.

Our first tables arrived at 5pm and the night never stopped. We went on a 5-10 minute wait around 8:15 but that was the only time. I was amazed at the flow of how my servers turned their tables and enabled us to move everyone along according to their set reservation times. I did have 8:45 tables that arrived at 7:45 and I told them that I would be able to seat them at 8:45. I don't consider these people as being on a wait; I was able to seat them at 8:45 right on time for their reservation. I was even able to take tables that did not have reservations; they were seated in my lounge. If they did not like the table they did not stay. For my main dining room guests walking in without a reservation were told, accurately, that they time for the main dining room would be 10:00. I truly enjoy when a night goes as smoothly as Saturday!

I was able to leave by 9:30 Saturday night but the idea of running on Sunday just did not appeal to me. Instead I decided to take Jack for a long walk. I really need a new pair of running shoes as I've started to notice that mine are pretty much worn through. I can make excuses all day long.

This week I have every intention of running tonight, Wednesday night and a 6 mile run on Saturday. I'm supposed to have Friday night off so I'm hoping that I will stick to this plan. Otherwise the weight loss I've seen is all going to appear on the scale again. I do believe that there are a combination of factors that are making me feel so lethargic.

Yesterday I ran a load of laundry and changed my sheets. I returned a dress that I did not end up wearing and went over to my parent's house to spend some time with my mom. I even met a friend for dinner last night. The 3 margaritas I had with dinner made waking up this morning tough!!

Tonight I might get around to cleaning my bathroom after I get back from the gym. Maybe… I'm hoping that the snow they are forecasting for this week turns to rain!!! I don't get snow days therefore I do not appreciate the snowy mess that makes driving miserable!!

It just isn't working

In conversation with my mom yesterday afternoon I was finally able to work through the Joe situation. He's a good guy. He's very into me. I appreciated the trip to Vegas. Yet from the beginning I've not really been that into him. I wondered if my feelings might change as we spent more time together. This post is probably going to make me look like an absolute witch and that I'm completely shallow and superficial. I just have to get it out. So up front I apologize for the shallowness and superficiality of my writing.

Before our Vegas trip Joe had a contract gig close to Charlotte so he spent quite a bit of time with me. Knowing we had a big trip coming up I voluntarily made dinner several times. The dishes incident back at the beginning of January really bothered me, and I pointed out that if he was looking for a housekeeper/maid he needed to keep looking. He did apologize for that. The times I made dinner instead of waiting for me to sit down he would immediately start eating, to me this is rude!

He's almost 39 so we've had some pretty serious conversations regarding relationships and our relationship and expectations and values. On paper we mesh very well. In real life, there's just something missing. At the airport in Charlotte I realized I was embarrassed that this was the guy I was with and this made me feel horrible. It's rare that I feel this way about someone who I'm dating. He is not a bad looking guy, but he's very rough around the edges.

Our trip to Vegas started off with him winning money right after we arrived at the hotel. For me this would have meant celebrating by opening the bottle of wine in the room and then having a fancy dinner. For him when I asked about opening the bottle of wine (yes it was expensive but $29 isn't unreasonable just expensive) he grimaced. So I dropped it. For dinner that night we went to the food court at the Venetian. I get that he bought the tickets for the phantom and yes they were expensive but not crazily so, we sat in the equivalent of the nose bleed section. Again I'm not ungrateful just explaining some of the things that happened. If he hadn't won the money then the food court would have been perfectly acceptable and I would not have thought twice but he won enough that we could easily have had a really nice dinner somewhere and he would have had money left over. After dinner we sat at a bar that had screens all around it and he played while I watched. Instead of offering to let me play (and thus getting me the free drink) he paid the $8 for my beer.

The following morning he opted for the hotel buffet. I ordered the champagne I knew he would make a face when I ordered the champagne but it was only $7 more to have that and Mimosas are a favorite of mine. PLUS it was unlimited refills! This particular morning his lack of table manners were particularly noticeable and I was very aware of this.

I spent quite a bit of time reading because after the first night I was no longer going to stand by a slot machine to watch as he played, that's indescribably boring. Our nice dinner that we went to on Sunday night was delicious!!! However, it was not nearly as fancy as I was lead to believe. The price I know was not inexpensive but I refuse to feel guilty for the 2 glasses of sangria that I ordered. I made plenty of meals leading up to this trip in order to not feel guilty for splurging a little bit. Additionally, I had breakfast that day, that was my only meal until dinner.

The next morning and afternoon he got breakfast and lunch when we went to the sales pitch, I had a bagel. So that was 2 meals covered and then that night our meal was part of the deal we got for going to the sales pitch so our meals were $5 a piece. My point in mentioning this is that Monday was not an expensive day for meals or for the show we went to see.

He never graduated from high school but instead has his GED. He is not dumb, actually he's quite intelligent, school just "wasn't his thing"... So he doesn't have high opinions of college or further education. Granted with what he does he does quite well. However, he works outside 10 hour days several days in a row. He's almost 39 and this is what he does, it's not an easy job and he has no plans for future employment other than this. My brother and sister in law both have their Masters degrees and I have a college degree. I would be so embarrassed to introduce this guy to my brother. Additionally the idea of introducing him to my friends makes me queasy. My friends are wonderful and they would be very nice but I just would be embarrassed for them to meet him, this does not bode well for a future with this guy.

He's 39 I know he's not going to change. He's very rough around the edges and there is nothing wrong with that. I just don't think that I can handle it. I've not really had this situation come up with someone I've dated before. I've dated a lot of different types of guys. I've overlooked a lot of various personality traits in different guys that I've dated. I'm not sure why with this particular guy there are some very glaring characteristics that are causing me to just not be that into him. I'm going to come across as the worlds biggest bitch with this post but I just can't lead him on. I've been thinking about all this since our return from Vegas. I've noticed a definite decline in our communication so I have a feeling he knows that the end of this relationship is around the corner.
In truth I feel horribly about it. I wish that I could be as attracted to this guy as I was to JM. Joe wants to get married, he is a Christian, he has his life in order. I just can't create the feelings that need to exist in order to pursue a future with someone. I realized last week that because I know that I don't *have* to get married, and I don't *need* anyone that I've become increasingly picky when it comes to who I date. I would love to find someone and marry and have a family but I refuse to settle and then be stuck with someone who makes me miserable. Marriage isn't easy and there are definitely struggles but I believe in marriage and all that it represents and I do hope that someday I find the right guy for me. Unfortunately I just don't think that Joe is him.

Restaurant Week and Back on the workout wagon

It's Friday and restaurant week officially starts in Charlotte. This means that area restaurants will be offering a 3 course meal at $30. It also means that tonight and tomorrow night at my restaurant will most likely be insanity. Fortunately before I left for my trip I went into our system and blocked out the 7-8 reservation times. This gives us control over how many reservations we actually take during this time. EVERYONE wants to eat during this time frame. What people don't understand is that if we let EVERYONE have this time frame then EVERYONE is going to leave very unhappy with the food and service. Ahhh the joys of restaurant life, and I do love it with all the ups and downs that go along with it.

Last night on my way home from work I told myself no matter what I was going to take myself to the gym. I was tired, I didn't feel like it but I was going. I had dinner, spent some time with Jack and then forced myself off the couch and into workout clothes. Then I dragged myself out to the car. The good thing is, if there is no traffic, my gym is only 10 minutes away.

During this time of year it makes sense to wait a while before going so I didn't arrive until 7:50. I did 15 minutes of free weights, squats and lunges. Then I knew I needed to run. I have a 5K coming up on February 5, I've taken a break from long running but I will still be doing short distances. I haven't run since January 6, 2 weeks exactly. I knew I needed to start easy and I did. I'm not sure what happened, maybe I increased the pace too fast. I got 2 miles in and then my whole middle section seized up in a cramp that made breathing difficult and doubled me over. If I had to guess I would say maybe dehydration. I know I ate yesterday so it's most likely not that but I might not have had enough water.

Despite the workout hiatus I have actually lost weight. My weight fluctuates from week to week so I can't actually pinpoint how much but I know that I'm down. We might have walked more in Vegas then I realized which would have helped. This week is traditionally my highest weight week so I'll be interested to see where I weigh in at next Thursday which will be traditionally my lowest weight week.

Saturday, depending on how it goes, I hope to do a 6 mile run outside. After last nights horrific cramp in my stomach I hope that this is actually possible. I think it will be but I'll just have to wait and see.

Happy Friday!!!!

Books I read.

I mentioned that I did quite a bit of reading in Vegas. I purchased 3 books for the trip and took 4. I love to read but most people would describe some of my favorite authors as mindless fiction. I do not care!

During the week prior to the trip I had time to read due to the snow. I reread a favorite Nora Roberts Series that I have. Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon and Heart of the Sea. This is the Gallaghers of Ardmore Trilogy. If you like stories of legends, ghosts and fairies Nora Roberts spins a tale that captures you in the first pages. I started Jewels of the Sun last Monday on my snow day. The story line is an American woman decides to follow her heart and take time away in the Irish village of Ardmore. She meets a ghost who lives in her cottage and falls in love with Aidan Gallagher. Tears of the Moon is the story of Aidan's brother Shawn and Brenna O'Toole. He's a fabulous musician and she's a practical sort and they've known each other all their lives only to realize that their friendship is more than friendship. I finished up Heart of the Sea at the airport on Saturday. Darcy Gallagher is smart, sophisticated and fun to follow as the story unfolds she and Trevor Magee come to an understanding and then all understanding goes out the window.

The next book I picked up is from another of my favorite Authors. Susan Elizabeth Phillips captures me in the first pages of her story. Glitter Baby is the story of Fleur Savagar. This is the first book SEP wrote and has been rereleased after being out of print for several years. Fleur is at the height of her modeling and acting career when she disappears from sight to find herself. She comes to realize who she is and what matters to her. I read this story before we ever made it to the hotel!

Nobody's Baby But Mine Jane Darlington tricks Cal Bonner into a one night stand, and then another in order to get pregnant. Then he finds out. The story moves along as they both realize how much they mean to each other and what matters in life!

Side note: as I went on SEP website I just found out a new book is about to be released and I am ecstatic!!!

When we were still in the Charlotte airport I knew I was going to need at least one more book. At Christmas I had been browsing books on Amazon and one caught my attention that is not my usual genre. I've enjoyed some of Grisham's books. Patricia Cornwell has a few that I've read, as scary as they have been for me.

Stieg Larsson apparently had more than the trilogy that has been released. Unfortunately he has passed away so there are only 3 books. The book that I purchased was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. While not at all what I would normally pick up this book is fascinating!!!

A journalist is brought to a small Swedish town to solve a murder mystery. He brings in a research assitant who is brilliant. The story has twists and turns and last night I stayed up way too late just to finish the book. Warning, there were some parts that I had to skim because of the violence or graphic nature of what was happening but overall, oh my word!!!

I will definitely be purchasing the next 2 books in the series!!

A few pictures

The first night when we were in the cab on our way back to our hotel I got a few pictures.

When we were walking back to our hotel after the plan ride I was in awe of the Carolina Herrera store. I LOVE her clothes, I think she is so amazing and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to window shop for a moment!!

On Monday we walked around a bit more. This is shots of the strip that I got from one of the land bridges.

I've requested more pictures be emailed to me, as soon as I have more I will post them!

Where I've Been

Good morning to all!! I hope that everyone who had Monday off had a wonderful long weekend!! I know I have some updating to do!! Friday evening Joe arrived and we went over to drop Jack Banner off at the Grandparents. Then, because he forget to pack nice pants and shoes, we had to make a quick trip to Concord Mills. I figured it would be the easiest place to quickly pick up these two items.

Saturday morning we threw our suitcases in the car and headed to the airport. We were on our way to Vegas!!! Back in December he had asked me if I would be interested in going with him to Las Vegas. I've always wanted to go but never had the opportunity until now. He had an offer from Aria hotel that comped quite a few things and the deal expired end of this month. So this is what we agreed would be my Christmas present.

Our plane boarded and we landed in Houston. We grabbed a quick bite to eat and then made our way to the gate to catch the flight into Vegas. I'm ok with flying until the landing part then I usually start to feel that hot icky sick feeling. I don't usually throw up but I definitely feel queasy. Fortunately once I get into cooler air I'm ok. We picked up my bag and headed to where the taxis were waiting.

Our hotel was extremely nice!! There were so many different restaurants and shops inside the hotel! Joe had purchased tickets to Phantom of the Opera for the 9:30 show. I had time to shower and change before we headed over to the hotel. I was excited because I'd read about the food and the shows in Vegas and I could hardly wait to take it all in. The Venetian Hotel is absolutely beatiful!! There are paintings on the ceiling and it's HUGE!!! We chose a place in the food court for a bite to eat before the show.

A 9:30 show on the night we arrived might not have been the greatest idea. Vegas is 3 hours behind Charlotte time so at 9:30 it felt like 12:30 and we had been up since early. Fortunately I knew the story and had seen the show once before so even though I was fighting sleep in the beginning I was able to revive enough to see the show and I knew what was going on. Joe was pretty much asleep through most of it and couldn't figure out what was going on.

The next morning we chose to have breakfast at the hotel buffet. It was fun for me because the way I do a buffet (and yes this is horribly wasteful I know) I go through and get a little bit of whatever I want and then I have 1 bite and I'm done. I opted for the champagne with my breakfast so I also had bottomless mimosas and coffee. FABULOUSNESS!!!

After breakfast I went back up to read for a little bit and Joe wanted to gamble. He was given a certain amount of credit and for whatever reason did not share any of it with me so I didn't really have the opportunity to gamble. Before we headed to the Venetian I played a dollar which I promptly lost. So while he played slots I read my book and met him downstairs to go to the pick up for our plane ride.

He had booked a trip for us to see the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. It was absolutely amazing to be able to see this!!! I was just in awe of how beautiful the desert is!!! I'm more of a green trees and landscape or beach kind of girl but the desert absolutely has it's own beauty!! The only downside to the plane ride was the landing and then getting on a hot shuttle bus which of course made me feel icky sick. I tried not to be a witch about it but I definitely did not feel good. The shuttle would have dropped us back at the hotel but Joe wanted to walk for a bit so we got off at the New York New York hotel with another group.

This hotel has a roller coaster and Joe wanted to ride it. I looked at him as if he were insane and said that if he wanted to he was welcome to but I could not do a roller coaster at that point. Instead we walked and our hotel was closer then he realized so we were back at the hotel and he was asking what I wanted to do. Maybe I should have researched but I had no idea and was not feeling good and earlier in the week he had been talking about how he was going to miss all the football games and I asked if he wanted to go back and watch the game that was going on (Patriots vs Jets). He said he would feel guilty watching football and I told him that I didn't care and so he watched the game while I read.

After the game I suggested we go back to the CVS we had passed on our walk and pick up some water and snacks. The room had food but it was crazy expensive and I didn't want to pay $8 for a 50oz bottle of water. We also were going to look for tickets for that evening. Before we could get into the CVS a lady stopped us asking how long we were in town and then got us inside so we could hear a pitch about if we went to a 90 minute travel club opportunity presentation we could get free tickets to a show of our choice out of a couple different shows. I suggested we walk around CVS and pick up what we were there to get and think about it. I was fine with it but Joe didn't want to go spend 90 minutes listening to a sales pitch. So I said fine and I paid for our CVS stuff since he was nice enough to treat for the trip.

I had already mentioned that I was hungry. We had decided on a restaurant in the hotel for dinner because he had been given a hotel credit in food as part of his hotel package deal. The place we picked was Tapas and I was so excited! While our reservations were not til 8 at 6 I was famished. The buffet had been a long time before and while he had fully enjoyed the buffet my one bite of everything was long gone!! He agreed after we got back from CVS that we could go on down to dinner. Then he reconsidered the sales pitch idea for us to get tickets to a show and wanted to go back. I again looked at him as if had grown two heads. I had already mentioned more than once that I was really hungry and he wanted to walk back to CVS???? I think he realized that I was NOT happy with the idea because then he said we could just go back after dinner. I told him if they did not have the earlier opening then we did not have to do it. He agreed and we made our way down to the restaurant.

Julian Serranos was honestly the best meal since the last time I ate at the previous restaurant where I worked. We started off with roasted pepper stuffed with goat cheese and mushrooms, then we had Mediterranean sea bass followed by a skewer of chicken and mushrooms. We ordered paella that was made to split for 2 and it was absolutely delicious!!! I had sangria, a glass of white then red to go with our meal.

Once I was no longer starving we walked down to CVS to talk to the lady we had met before. She was with another couple so we talked to a guy instead. He signed us up for a presentation on a time share. I was fine with this, Joe less so but really it's not like we had anything planned for the next day so what was 90 minutes in the grand scheme of things?? Plus they offered bagels, pastries, juice and coffee, free breakfast PLUS we would get 2 tickets to a show and this included a meal at our choice of 4 different restaurants for $20, not free but considerably less then what either would cost separately. We decided since we had to be up so early the next morning to not do anything further that night so I think I was asleep before 10 that evening.

Bright and early Monday morning we were awake and at CVS to be taken to the presentation. I knew we were going to hear about a time share and I was fine with it, Joe was practically kicking and screaming but I told him to suck it up he was getting a free breakfast out of the deal. The shuttle took us to the time share and Marge came out and greeted me. I've dated two guys whose parents had time shares and I personally really like them. The way it worked their shares were set up on points systems and there were places all over the world where you could use these points and the places where you stay are so so nice!!! KS had taken me to a fabulous place at the beach and we got free tickets to a show and it was a weekend that I still remember fondly!! CF&G and I had stayed in a place with his family and again I was just impressed by how nice everything was.

As Marge told me all about the company and why she liked it and then took me through the units I was thoroughly impressed!! If I actually had money I would be all about this opportunity!! Joe was ready to go but I just figured we didn't have anything better to do so what was the rush.

After we finished with that we walked over to Planet Hollywood to pick up our tickets for the show that evening. We were going to the Variety Show a fun combination of all kinds of performers. Once that was done we made our way down to the Hooters Hotel and Casino where we were given gambling credit for $100 each. I finally had the opportunity to play a slot machine. We walked back to the New York New York hotel and rode the roller coaster for Joe. After that we made our way back to the hotel so Joe could gamble and I went up to the room and read for a while. I had not eaten since breakfast and a bagel and coffee is not long lasting so I was again very hungry.

We decided to head over to Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino for dinner. Our show was at 8:30 and you started lining up at around 7:45 so I knew we would have time to walk in between dinner and the show. Out of 4 restaurant choices Joe chose the Spice Market Buffet. We enjoyed foods from all over, I once again used the 1 bite strategy which worked well. The dessert choices were delectable!!! After dinner we walked around the miracle mile shops and finally I had to sit down. I made the mistake of wearing heels because I wanted to look cute but they had started to kill my feet!!! The show was great! At first I wasn't excited about it but I'm glad that I went! Afterwards we made our way back to the hotel. We had to be up and leave for the airport at 5:40 the next morning.

Our flight from Vegas to DC was really nice!! I slept for quite a bit of it and when we landed in DC it was cold and rainy!! Then after a brief layover we boarded the plane for Charlotte. Last night my Mom had dinner waiting for us so we had dinner with my parents which was so nice to not have to worry about what we would do for food after being in planes or airports all day long!!

I don't want to sound ungrateful, I definitely appreciated the trip. I think travelling with someone is a great way to figure out how well you get along. In fairness Joe was not entirely familiar with where our hotel was located so that is why we didn't really venture out til Monday. He kept asking what I wanted to do but I didn't know because I wasn't sure what to expect and so while seeing Phantom and the plane ride were really great (not to mention probably really expensive) there were other things we probably could have done that I was not aware of. I'd heard to much about the food and I think had we explored a little there were a lot of places that would have been fun to try but the food that we had was really good! At the Vegas airport while we were waiting he finally asked if I would like some cash to play a slot machine and I told him that I appreciated the offer but I was going to read instead.

I would definitely love to go back and visit again! I think it's a fun place and perhaps with a different person there would be more that I would have done. As for what will happen with Joe and myself, it's up in the air. I know that he's very much into me, I'm just not certain how into him I am.

Friday

Today is Friday… Monday I was home because I didn't feel brave enough to drive the un-cleared roads to work. Tuesday my office had a delayed opening of 10 and I left at 2. Wednesday the office didn't open until 9:30, so nice!!! Being able to sleep in on a weekdays is blissful!! Yesterday was my first day back to the regular schedule and I picked up a shift at the restaurant.

I have not worked out since Saturday morning. Granted I have workout DVD's and I could have done one of those. My reason for not, I guess laziness. Having to move furniture to make space and then Jack being under my feet or licking me when I'm laying down is not conducive to a great workout. This lack of working out may explain part of my weird mood! I planned for a workout last night but I didn't want to turn down hours at the restaurant.

I feel out of sorts and frustrated, for no good reason. Writing is usually so easy I sit down and have so much that I want to get out of my head. All I can think about today are all the things I need to get done when I leave work. Fortunately the roads in Charlotte are back to normal. Which makes it SO ANNOYING when you still have the occasional driver who thinks that they need to go 10 under the speed limit because there is still snow on the grass. It reminds me of last year when traffic crawled on the highway because there was snow falling from the sky, although none was sticking to the road.

I hope that everyone is having a fabulous Friday!!

It's already Wednesday

I had the nice surprise of a delayed opening this morning. Sleeping in on a weekday is a nice treat!! The roads were so much better this morning then yesterday morning!! I left the office yesterday at 2 and went home and hibernated. I have not worked out this week because I figure the gym was probably closed Monday and last night I guessed that they were closing early. I didn't want to attempt driving if I didn't have to. I'm in serious need of a good workout and I'm hoping tomorrow night will be the night for that.

Monday I did get the sheets changed and bathroom cleaned. Yesterday when I de-iced my car I have to believe that counted for something as my neck still hurts from that activity. I'm glad to be back in the office on a normal schedule. Still not sure how much PTO (personal time) I'm going to have to take because of the past 2 days. Our sick days and vacation days are lumped under Personal Time Off and I don't want the last 2 days to affect my vacation time.

Sunday I was with my parents and Bean and Jelly. They were in Belgium/Paris and Belgium over Christmas and New Years so we celebrated Christmas and their birthdays with them on Sunday. They gave me a running watch, which I now have to learn how to operate, and a crock pot. I am so excited about both gifts!!! They seemed to really like the gifts that I gave them!! A pizza baking kit, dishes, a really soft blanket and for Jelly a nightgown and robe.

I have a trip to Vegas planned in the near future and I'm trying to figure out how to pack for that, suggestions appreciated!!! I tend to over pack so I'm going to do my best not to do that this time. Last year when I went to Miami I don't want to know how much it cost for the suitcase I took.

I suppose I should actually get some work done. Hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday!!!

My 7 things.
1. I love to shop, and shop when I get bored. This is very dangerous!!! I've gotten better about not spending money when I really don't have any but every once in a while I find a way to splurge on a new article of clothing or pair of shoes.

2. I don't buy a lot of jewelry for myself. I've been gifted with a lot of beautiful pieces!

3. Yesterday I was able to change my sheets, get a load of laundry done and clean my bathroom in addition to reading a book and watching a movie. LOVE a free day!!

4. I love all things wedding related but actually do not want to have a wedding of my own I want to escape to the courthouse. I highly doubt this will happen as my mother can put on a guilt trip like no one's business!!

5. I have learned that if you pre-shop stores on the internet it helps to save time in the store if you are looking for something specific and don't have a lot of time.

6. I really like caffeine. I like the energy and feeling on top of things. I know it's so bad for me but I don't function well without it.

7. I topped the scale at somewhere around 218 when I was 13 and the lowest I've seen the scale is 145 when I was 25. If I had to guess how much weight I've gained and lost between the ages of 13 and 31 I would say it's more than 100 but not sure how much. I would very much like to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

OK instead of 15 Jen picked 5 so I'm going to pick 5 as well

Southern Snow

While it may seem dramatic and funny that down South this snow has brought everything to a halt the reason is because it's too dangerous to try and drive if you don't have to.

This morning it took me 30 minutes to de-ice my car. While standing on a solid sheet of ice. My office does not close, EVER. The flipping banks, the BIG banks, closed today because of how bad the streets are. Once the snow stopped yesterday the rain and sleet and ice started. My HOA had the parking lot cleared but they did not put salt down after clearing the parking lot so the result, a nice solid sheet, several inches thick, of ice. The roads, are ice. The parking lot here at my office, is ice.

Fortunately the road outside my neighborhood has to stay somewhat passable for the fire station and the other road is a direct artery to the hospitals. So once I can get to these roads and the other 2 to navigate to work it's not impossible.

The highest speed I was able to drive was 35. For the most part my speed was between 25-30 in order to avoid going into a ditch.

Charlotte is a city of transplants. Talk to five people and ask them where they are from and you will here PA, OH, MI, NY, NJ more often then not. Occasionally you will hear NC, sometimes even orginally from Charlotte. Due to the banking and finance that thrive in this city we now have more native Charlotteans staying then ever before.

Yet even in a city which, if I had to guess, I would say is 90% transplants we still shut down for snow. Why? Because of the fact that this city does not really have that much of a snow budget. We do not have big trucks and tons of salt and the roads become very dangerous quickly.

Saturday Run that wasn't

This morning I woke up and realized that it's time to back off the running (again). I was supposed to do a long run but it's starting to become something I sort of dread. When I first started running my first race was a 4miler in March 09. I was running shorter 5K's and 4 milers and did a 10K in September 09. In October 09 I ran the 15K and met S and he asked me to do the Miami 1/2. Originally I had planned to do the Charlotte 1/2 but realized after the 15K that I was not ready to train for a 1/2 that was coming up beginning of December. Miami was end of January giving me more time to get the training done.

After Miami I said I would do a local 1/2 that was in April but while training it became too much and I backed off and just ran the 10K for that race. Then I continued to run but May was a very busy month last year!! In June after S and I broke up I decided to do another 1/2 so I could say that I did one on my own and not with an ex boyfriend. I trained through the brutally hot summer and ran the ATL 13.1 in October.

When I returned from Atlanta I felt so good that I was able to start running again immediately. I had the desire and energy to keep up my long distances. So I went ahead and planned for the Charlotte 1/2 in December. I'm thrilled I did and thrilled with my time that I ran it in.

I ran 8 miles on Christmas Eve and 6 miles last Friday morning. Today I planned for 9. Except as I took Jack out and I was thinking I realized that my body is hurting. I need to focus on doing some other types of fitness for right now. I think my lack of motivation has a lot to do with me just not wanting to run. Working out is something that I do. I still plan to run I think it's fantastic. However, for a time I need to back off. Instead of doing the 1/2 in March I will run the 5K with my friend NH who has already signed up for it.

I'm so excited that in April I get to meet my friend Lisa in person. She and I will be running the Cherry Blossom 10Miler in April and I'm very excited about this opportunity!!! I know I will have to ramp up my training again but for now, I want to do other things. I want to want to get out and run again. Plus I need new running shoes and since that's not in the budget just yet this gives me a little time before I have to buy new ones.

So it's off to the gym for me, to come up with new ways to burn calories!!!

Friday

It has been an interesting week... It's my first full week back at work after having 2 nice short weeks for Christmas and New Years. Joe was in town Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday I had the power walk through the mall. Last night I arrived home and I was SO NOT feeling the gym!!! I realized that I could just be lazy and relax or I could suck it up and venture back outside again.

Much to Jack's dismay I chose the latter option. Once I got to the gym I was fine. I started off at an easy pace and worked my way up. It was not my fastest run but it was a steady pace. I realized that I might not have the time next week to get runs in so last night was important and once I finished I felt better.

I'm planning on a 1/2 marathon in March and my friend NH is going to run her very first 5K. I'm so excited and I know she'll be hooked after her first one!! The race is local although it's uptown so that means parking will be a challenge but we'll figure it out.

I have to work tonight and tomorrow night. I got my thank you notes done on Wednesday night before Joe arrived while dinner was in the oven. So of my to do list the only thing I have left is to clean my bathroom, get a long run in on Saturday morning and wrap Bean and Jelly's Christmas and birthday presents.

Happy Friday to all!!!

5QF

I figured out how to participate although I can't link up to it just yet. If you want to play along, and link up go to My Little Life. Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post. Answer them, then watch for the linky to appear Friday morning and link up your post!

1. What is your current favorite book and why?
I love ANYTHING by Karen Kingsbury. She is a Christian fiction writer and whenever I pick up one of her books I can not put it down. When I'm reading I feel like her characters are real people that I could run into one day.

2. Do you go to the dentist regularly?
I try, but right now I'm putting it off. I had 2 cavities when I went in September. When I went in for the fillings the one was filled no problem. The other, they said I needed a root canal, which got infected, which had to have another root canal and then the tooth was still too weak for the temporary crown and I was supposed to go back on 12/16 but I cancelled it because the tooth has been permanently filled and I know they are just going to tell me that I'm going to lose the tooth anyways.

3. What is your worst memory from High School?
I can't really say a worst, I definitely have most embarrassing. I was in an SAT study course and I had my legs crossed and my leg fell asleep. I went to stand up and fell down. That one or the day that the guy dropped the gum in my hair.

4. What do you hope to be remembered for in your life?
I want to be remembered for my positive encouraging and uplifting personality as well as not being afraid to reach out to others and help when I can.

5. Are you superstitious or do you have any superstitions?
I believe in ghosts and things like that but I'm not really superstitious. I've broken so many mirrors and deleted so many chain emails and I just don't believe in them.

The Shoes

I decided to go with those dresses I should find a few pairs of shoes...

I think shoes like this would be fun and add a pop to the first black dress that I showed in my last post!

For the lace dress I think these black suede heels would be really pretty!

For the pink dress these shoes would match perfectly!!!

These beauties would look great with the straight black strapless number

And I think these would be just the right touch for the black sequined dress!

Some nights

Maybe it's not a good sign that I am slacking off this early into the new year. I got off work yesterday and had to go to the grocery store. Then home. I had the best of intentions for cleaning, thank you notes and working out. However, all day yesterday I had an outfit in my head that I was trying to pull together. The orginal dress I was thinking of would have looked something like this

But even that was just not quite what I had in my head. Work is kind of slow so I had been googling my various dress thoughts and trying to find what I had in my head. After looking all day, I decided after a few hours at home with Jack that I needed to move from the computer to real life.
I do have to say that power walking through the mall had to count for something. I had limited time because the mall closes at 9 and I arrived at 7:24 and I needed to hit as many stores as possible. I walked from one end of the mall to the other in both directions and I was booking it trying to make sure I hit all the stores I needed to see.
I was able to try this dress on.

It was pretty and I liked it but the sash was really big and it didn't quite do what I wanted it to on me. For fun I tried on this little number.

But it did absolutely nothing for me!!! As I was trying on I was finding more and more what was and was not working. I did try on a straight strapless dress. The closest I could find to what I tried on was this dress.

I liked it but it just didn't "do" quite what I needed it to. I love the idea of straight and strapless but the reality is it's not the best look for me.

I finally landed on this little number as a possibility, I'm still deciding...
While my recent weight loss has helped the clothes I own fit better I'm still not exactly where I want to be but that's something to work for in 2011. Of course if I don't suck it up and get to the gym then this is not a goal I will accomplish. Overall it was good for me to try things on and have an idea of what worked and what didn't and I always love looking through beautiful clothes!! Especially when they are having fabulous sales!!

Conversations and Resolutioners

Last night Joe and I had the conversation I needed to have after he left a sink full of dishes on Sunday. I had a little bit of downtime before he arrived and that helped me to relax after work. When he arrived I gave him time to get settled. Once we had both had a little time I explained to him that I don't mind cooking and I don't mind doing dishes but if he's looking for a maid or housekeeper he needs to keep looking. He apologized for the dishes and I think I got my point across. After our conversation I felt a lot better. We watched Hitch and just relaxed.

Tonight I will fight the resolutioners at the gym to get my strength training and run in. This is my very least favorite time of the year for the gym. It finally thins out again around March but until then it's way too crowded and it annoys me!!! I've yet to write my thank you notes from Christmas and I need to clean my bathroom so hopefully when I get home this afternoon I have enough energy to get all this done!!

I couldn't resist another recap

29 and Holding RN Mama did this post and she got it from Jen and I thought it was so much fun I wanted to do one too!! So here goes!

1. What did you do in 2010 that you had never done before? In January I ran my first 1/2 marathon, in October and December I ran my 2nd and 3rd 1/2 Marathons.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolution, and will you make more next year? I did not have resolutions last year. I haven't really made any for this year. Every year I say I will lose weight and try to pay off debt.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? My blog friend Jess had a baby in February and one of my friends that I grew up with had her second little boy not too long ago and he is beautiful!!

4. Did anyone close to you die? I'm blessed that at the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011 everyone is still here who was here at the beginning of 2010.

5. What countries did you visit? At some point I'm going to visit other countries, vicariously I travelled thru the pictures of my cousin and my brother and SIL. My cousin was in Italy for a semester and travelled all over Europe. Bean and Jelly travelled to Belgium and Paris.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010? Wow I am having trouble coming up with something. For the most part I am so happy. Yes I stress over money so I guess I'll say better money management skills or somehow replace the income from the roommate so I no longer have to have a roommate.

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? 1/29/10 I ran my first 1/2 marathon. 5/1/10 I gained a sister. 8/21/10 I celebrated my 31st birthday and was honestly ok with the fact that I was single. 10/3/10 I ran my 2nd 1/2 marathon. 10/20/10 I had the most incredible first date that I've ever had. 12/11/10 I ran my 3rd 1/2 marathon and ran it faster than my first. Then I had my first date with Joe. 12/31/10 I had another successful restaurant NYE.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Staying single for almost 4 months, I have been a serial dater. I made a conscious effort to take time and just be me. Then the 1/2 marathons were a big deal too.

9. What was your biggest failure? Really I can't list anything. I accomplished so much both personally and professionally. I continue to work to improve but I didn't fail at anything this year.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I had to back off on my running after the Miami 1/2 marathon in January I was burned out from training and instead of running another 1/2 in April I downgraded to the 10k and I'm so glad that I did!!

11. What was the best thing you bought? LOL a match.com membership, it created all kinds of stories!!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? I've been really impressed by my mom and Aunt this year. they have done an incredible job taking care of my Grandmommy!!! My Aunt takes my Grandmother to all her doctor appointments and keeps all the business straight and my Mom takes my Grandmommy to her weekly hair appointments and shopping. They also arranged my Grandmother's apartment so all she had to do to move in was walk in the door. She has a beautiful place and we are excited that she is happy!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled or depressed? Family stuff, family dynamics there was stuff going on that was disappointing. Also the break up with S was ugly and then JM dropping off the face of the earth was not easy.

14. Where did most of your money go this year? Debt and food, I may have purchased a few pairs of shoes and a few outfits though!!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? I was extremely excited about the holidays this year!! We had Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Years Day at my parents house and it was wonderful. I also was super excited about my trip this past November to Pittsburgh and seeing Miami last January was a big deal!! I think the biggest deal of all was my brother's wedding!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2010? LOL Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull I Like It.

17. Compared to this time last year are you a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer? I would have to say that I'm happier, thinner and as far as finances I think I'm about the same.

18. What do you wish you had done more of? I wish I'd had a little more time to read and a little more time to meet up with friends.

19. What do you wish you had done less of? I wish I could have worked a little less.

New Years Day, Forgetfulness and Dishes

New Years Day I planned to take Jack for a walk but it was kind of rainy and I didn't want to risk getting caught in the rain so I went back to bed instead. Once we woke up I started getting ready. I told my mom I would be at their house at 12. She was hosting the New Year's Day meal at 2 and I knew she would need help. I also felt like this would help Joe because he would have a chance to talk to my parents before the influx of the rest of the family showed up.

I told him that we needed to leave at 11:30 and promptly at 11:30 we were pulling out of the driveway. When we arrived at my parents I took Joe inside first to meet them and then we went back out to get Jack and all his stuff unloaded. Joe and my Dad sat and talked while I helped my mom in the kitchen. He met my Mom's brother and his wife first and they brought my Grandmother. Then he met my Mom's sister and her husband and his parents. It was a big group of people but Joe held his own.

The traditional New Years Day menu is pork, black eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread and then there are other extras. My mom made twice baked potatoes that were YUMMY!!! There was a lot of food and we all sat and talked. I had to be at the restaurant so I could not stay to help with the dishes. Jack got to stay and spend time with the Grandparents, he was so exhausted by the time everyone else left my Mom told me he slept the rest of the afternoon and evening.

The restaurant was predictably slow for New Years Day, I was out by 7:15 and home by 7:30. We watched a movie and just hung out. Sunday I had to be up early because I was driving down to Greenville to see MFT. I planned to be there at 11 which meant that I left at 9. I knew I would need to stop and get gas but I was holding off til I got down the road into South Carolina. At exit 78 I stopped for gas and went to retrieve my wallet. It was not in my purse. I thought about it and realized that it was probably still in my coat that I used New Years Eve. I don't always take a purse in to the restaurant. Often times I will put my wallet in the inside pocket of my coat so I don't have to carry a purse. I did not move the wallet back to my purse after Friday night.

I was 30 minutes to MFT and an hour and a half away from Charlotte so I called MFT and explained the situation. She said she just had to dry her hair and she would come get me. I then called the house, Joe was still there and hadn't left yet. I had him look and sure enough my wallet was in the coat. He asked if I wanted him to bring it to me and I said that I appreciated it but that MFT was on her way. I hung up and was digging through my purse wishing that I had loose cash or something but I knew I didn't. I did find my paycheck from the restaurant that I got the night before. I went in to the gas station and asked the girl if there was any place where I could cash my check. She sent me down the road to the grocery store so I went in with my car registration and my work photo ID and my Triple A card. Unfortunately they don't cash hand signed checks AND my manager had forgotten to sign the check anyways. So cashing my check was not an option. I called MFT and let her know where to meet me. A short time after that she arrived and I got gas for my car.

We decided to see what downtown Spartanburg had to offer for restaurants. We drove down to the next exit and drove a ways down the road. The downtown area is super cute and there was a Wild Wing Café on the corner. We decided to stop there for lunch and sat and caught up with each other and what had been going on. I'm so sad I didn't get to see my nephew but it was good to catch up with my friend and hear all her news. She told me later that afternoon that he loved his Christmas present and she loved the blanket that I gave her for Christmas.

Fortunately on my way down I maintained the speed limit and once I realized I did not have my wallet I made sure to be that much more cognizant of how fast I was driving. I made it back to Charlotte and picked Jack up from the Grandparents. I arrived home to a very messy house. Joe and I are going to have a conversation regarding the fact that I am not a housekeeper or a maid. It's nice to have him visit but leaving me a sink full of dishes is not cool and he lost major points on that yesterday. Once I got my house straightened back up I took Jack for an hour long walk. It was so beautiful yesterday, it hit 65 degrees!!

Last night I met up with my friend NH to treat her to her birthday dinner and hear all about her dating adventures. Between the two of us we could write a book!! We split appetizers and sat and talked about the holidays and the guys and what the coming year is going to bring. It was a great evening and this morning I'm back to the reality of work!!

NYE

I had Friday off from my full time job. Joe came down on Thursday night and we had dinner. Friday I ran 6 miles and then we went to lunch, ran some errands. I had to be at the restaurant at 5 but I knew my manager wanted me there sooner. When I left Tuesday night we were somewhere around 380 covers (people). I didn't think we would have much more than that when I arrived Friday.

I had my game face applied. My hair was done up, my makeup was perfect and my top was silver sequined sparkly and fabulous!!! I walked in the door and looked at the "book" computer. 408 covers, WHAT??? HOW IN THE WORLD ARE WE GOING TO GET 408 PEOPLE IN THIS RESTAURANT??? Then I took a breath and remembered that I've done more. I looked at the floor, tables had been added. I looked at how the reservations had been spread out and realized that this might just be do-able.

Our first reservations arrived at 5. I had a walk in party of 3 right at 5 and I went ahead and gave them a table. The evening started to roll and I focused on the task at hand. 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm we were flowing and tables were coming available as I needed them. 9pm I had a few tables that had to wait a few moments but nothing ridiculous. 10pm I was in the grey. In the Open Table system once you are nearing the end of your reservations the list goes grey. When you see that grey appear you know you are home free. I just had a few more tables that I needed. One of those was going to be a table for a party of 6. I had a table that had enjoyed dessert and had paid we were just waiting on them to leave. I knew the table was going to be ready within a very short amount of time.

The party of 6 walked in and gave me their name. I said thank you for joining us this evening you table is not quite ready but will be very soon. The woman looks at me and says but I had a 10pm reservation that guarantees me a table at 10pm. I looked at her and said yes m'am I understand and we are going to seat you as soon as we can your table will be ready in just a little bit. She comes back with but I was guaranteed a table at 10pm I have a reservation. OK NEWS FLASH if you go out to eat on NYE night and you have a reservation the restaurant will do their very best to get you seated as close to your reservation time as possible but you MIGHT just have to wait a few minutes before your table comes available. I CAN NOT pull a table out of thin air for you to sit at. You can clearly see the ENTIRE dining room behind me is PACKED and there are NO available tables. To stand and argue with me about the fact that you have a 10pm reservation guaranteeing you a table at 10 is ridiculous and a waste of both of our time. She and her party went and stood a few feet away from my hostess stand until their table was ready.

Considering that this was the only situation like this for the evening and everything else flowed better then I could have ever imagined I count myself lucky!! I was out by 11:10 and home in time for my champagne toast and midnight kiss with Joe!!
