Life lately

I have been invited to a halloween party and I said I would go. It's a little intimidating because the invited friends are all so much prettier than I am. The pictures from parties past are definitely impressive in regards to the costumes that guests wear.

I researched. My original idea was to be a runner. A hollywood fully glammed out runner but a runner. My friend Margaret said be more creative. I racked my brain and remembered how much I love Charlie's Angels. I decided that I could put together a Charlie's Angel costume. I'm going as Kellie Garrett (Jaclyn Smith's character). I have an outfit. Tonight I found the perfect necklace. Once my outfit arrives I will figure out what shoes will work. I think I can totally make this work. I'm contemplating false eyelashes...

I have a race on Saturday, a 5 miler. I've been running quite a bit and tracking calories. My fitness pal gives me a calorie limit of 1400 calories a day. If I work out I get more calories. I'll be really honest, I never ever stay within my calorie count. I'm not sure why I'm bothering to track but I figure at least I know and this way I can see why I'm not losing weight.

I also realize that I just don't have that much motivation to be a different size. I think there are more important things on my plate, or maybe not even that, maybe I just don't want to constantly beat myself up over not being a certain number on the scale.

My condo, oh my word! So thankfully God provided the tenants in a week, so very very thankful for this!

The leak from the upstairs tub. They fixed through my unit, no one contacted me about this. The handyman for the upstairs unit was in my unit and cut a big hole in my wall. I found this out when my technician was sent to fix the wall, and told my property manager that there is a really big hole. All I can think is dollar signs.

Today I get an email from my property manager that the AC isn't working. This is not a shock to me. I had to ask the previous property manager 3 times to send someone out. When they went out they said that the coils just needed to be vacuumed but that it was fine. Somehow I figured I would have to pay for another visit. Sure enough today that message came. Again, dollar signs.

I realize that because I have a tenant I have a way to offset the cost of these expenses and it's not all happening while the condo sits empty waiting for a new tenant and I'm not having to deal with it all living there. I'm beyond thankful for this provision and I realize that I am so incredibly blessed! Eventually this will all settle down and I can implement my pay down debt initiative that I have been planning.

This past Sunday I took my friend Marg's to lunch for her birthday. Yes I have a pay down debt initiative but I believe in the important things like taking one of my best friends to lunch for her birthday. She picked Olive Garden so she was a cheap lunch date. We both got the soup, salad and breadsticks, so yummy!!!

This past week at work has been customer service appreciation week. I wrote an essay about customer service and won, my price, a panera gift card.

In my small group we have started a new study, we're doing the book Bad Girls of the Bible. I think I'm going to like it our assignment for our next meeting is to read chapter 2. Chapter 1 was on Eve.

I finally figured out the watch that my brother and SIL gave me for Christmas in 2010. I'm a few years late in doing this but better late than never! I plan to wear it Saturday and see if I really have figured it out.

On that note I'll sign off. Thankful that tomorrow is Friday!!!

And it's August

I did the sleep study. It started Tuesday night and went all day Wednesday. Sleep Apnea was able to be ruled out pretty much immediately. Wednesday was a series of 5 naps, it was awesome! I felt super rested! So turns out I don't have narcolepsy either, just extreme tiredness also known as hypersomnia or something like that. I have a prescription that is supposed to help me feel more alert. I don't notice that much of a difference in all honesty.

That Thursday I had my next class at the Concord church. the title of this class is hearing the voice of the Lord. Which I knew would be helpful for me. We start the class and Dawn talks about dreams and she's talking about these different kinds of dreams and then she says and have you had a dream where you really have to go to the bathroom and you just can't seem to get there and of course several of us raised our hand and then she said and have you had a dream where bathroom stalls are backed up and you just can't find a working stall. I was the only one with my hand still up for that second one.

She said I have a word for you come see me at the end of class. But then she said or I can share it now, and I said it was fine to share it then. She had a word and it was about how it's felt like I've been seeking to get rid of everything and keep looking for places but I can't find a place and it seems like I might find someplace and then something else defiles it and there is no freedom to be cleansed. The Lord has the mercy seat and I need to go to the mercy seat to heal and restore and be cleansed and that I am to run to that mercy seat.

I mentioned in my last post that I had gone back to counseling. I was struggling with a downward spiral with bulimia. It's something that I have tried many times over to deal with but I would keep finding myself back in the pattern.

With that word and the prayer that followed it was like tentacles broke. That was on July 17 and I have had a few times since then when I've had that moment of returning to the pattern but I am able to just push those thoughts away.

That weekend I had a race in Pineville that was rainy and cool, which was nice. Even being relatively cool the humidity was still high so I was crazy sweaty! I left from the race and drove down to the lakehouse to see my brother, sister in law and nephew. We had a great time hanging out and it was super relaxing!

The following week on Wednesday I got to go on an agency visit down to Columbia, SC which I love getting to be out of the office and meet people!

That Saturday I had a race where you predicted your finish time and whoever got closest in their age group won. If I would have guessed 28:47 like I thought I did I probably would have won. I guessed 28:29, which was the time from my Monroe 5K on June 7. It's ok it was a really fun race because I had a lot of friends who ran that same race.

After my race I drove home, showered, threw some stuff in a bag, and headed down to Greer, SC to see my friend Margs. We went to lunch, hung out at the pool, and had a yummy dinner on Saturday night. Sunday I drove back up and my Uncle Roger and Aunt Linda were in town. It was so fantastic hanging out with them!

Tuesday night I had my small group, Wednesday we said good bye to Uncle Roger and Aunt Linda. I had my appointment with my counselor and explained about what had happened in the July 17 class and that I didn't know where we would go from here. She said that this was awesome and we kept an appointment for end of August just to follow up but I've pretty much been released from counseling. Wednesday night we had the Israel class, Thursday night I had my class on hearing the voice of the Lord and Friday night I got my hair cut. By the time that was done, I was exhausted! I missed my Friday night meeting because I was just way too tired!

Yesterday morning I had Bikini Bootcamp, today my legs hate me! Last night I babysat for a friend so she and her husband could have a date night. This morning I helped at church and then went to church. The Charlotte church was doing a huge school supply drive for one of the local schools that they support. So I helped sort and inventory the supplies that came in. Oh my word it was so awesome to see everyone's generosity!

This afternoon I drove up to see Audra. It was a good visit, I'm really glad I went! It was a little awkward when she asked me when am I moving back to my real house. Fortunately her mom jumped right on that and she told her that I live in my real house now with my Mom and Dad and Jack.

I'm in awe that it's August. I know that time goes fast, and that it is so important not to take things for granted. Tomorrow marks 6 months since I left and 6 months until I can file for divorce. It's been a journey and it's not at all where I thought I would be, but I'm ok with that. I am right where God wants me to be!

Wednesday

It's been a week. Again.

Posts and Kid updates have reminded me how prayers don't hit the clouds and bounce back.

Today at my desk I'm passing the tears off on allergies again but they're actually happy tears.

Yesterday I ran with Jack, I had tears from allergies that were actual allergy tears. Jack has allergies too, I had to wipe his eyes this morning. My skin itches, my nose runs, and I sneeze like crazy, fun times.

I did strength training and toning at the gym on Monday night. I don't really need a trainer since I know how to kick my own tail, I think it's just the accountability factor of answering to someone.

Daron bought me the most gorgeous flowers yesterday for the 2 year anniversary of our engagement date. Totally unexpected, and appreciated!!!

I've been in a sad place too. I always love catching up with Patrice and always feel a little blue after because she is so far away. That added to the fact that Monday was the 1 year date since I left Daron for the 2 weeks last year. I didn't mention that date to him, and I'm thankful that it passed and we're not in that place anymore.

I had the topic (program) for my Al-Anon meeting last night. Progress not Perfection, which I have to remember often. I used to think that I had to have everything just so, and there were things I wouldn't try because I knew I might fail. I work to overcome that fear of failure.

I went shopping yesterday on my lunch at ON. They have really gorgeous colors right now. I figure since I went through my closet over the weekend I "needed" a few things. I'm excited for what I found!

I'm excited that my friend is moving here although I know that it's not a move she's excited for she is making the best of it. I'm just concerned that between her schedule and mine we still might not see each other very often.

Back to work, Happy Wednesday!

5 Minutes

Friday afternoon of last week was up in the air from Wednesday until Friday. Why? Because I had texted Amy about whether or not I was going to pick Girl Clean up at 5 or if we would just meet up at ballet Saturday morning.

They were at the beach and they didn't come back until Friday. So instead of meeting up, which we tried to plan and traffic was too crazy, she dropped Girl Clean off at the house at around 8.

My husband was upset with me because he said I was ignoring Girl Clean. Truth, I wasn't. She came in the house and she was all about her Dad. Which meant that I was free to read my book. I missed her. I also understand that 3 1/2 year old little girls don't need a step mom to get in the way when they just want their Dad.

He said I wasn't acting like I missed her. Well I did. I just realized the need to give her space. She had been with her Grandmommy all week. Her mom had been at the beach the last of the week. Girl Clean did not need me, she needed her Daddy. He would say that I'm making excuses, I would say I'm smarter then he gives me credit for.

This caused Friday night to end on an unpleasant note. Saturday morning I had my 15K race. It was chilly, perfect race weather! By the time the race started I was ready. Nicole and I ran together the first 6 miles then she pulled on ahead. I was OK until mile 7 when my calf started cramping, my right hip locked and my lower back was screaming. Until mile 7 I was keeping a 10 minute per mile pace. I finished the race with a 10:13 pace.

Saturday after the race I got home and showered. Girl Clean got home from ballet. We went to lunch. We went home and hung out. Girl Clean had a fever for some reason so she and her Dad stayed home from church. I went to the 5 service, had nursery for the 7 service and left from there to help Vada celebrate her 30th birthday.

I got home Saturday night at 10. I was so exhausted!!!

Sunday Mr. Clean purchased tickets to the Disney on Ice show. That show was AMAZING!!!! It was so incredible to be able to go and experience that production!!! Our seats were fantastic!! I remembered a jacket for Girl Clean, thankfully, because it gets chilly in the arena with the ice!

We grabbed a late lunch and took Girl Clean back to her mom.

I made it to the gym last night. I have a long way to go and honestly even with all my changes I just don't know that I'm going to get there. I am so tired of the yo-yo!

Last night Mr. Clean talked to the company where he ordered one of my Christmas presents from. In order to get a full refund he had to return the item in 30 days. If we waited until Christmas to open the gift he would receive a credit for the amount.

I asked what he would like for me to do. He said it was up to me. So I said go ahead and show me. He brought out a box and in the box were cowboy boots. They were beautiful. I was appreciative that he thought of me. I am incredibly thankful that he cares and wants to give me something special.

Honestly if they had fit (I have fred flinstone feet and the boots were narrow my foot would not go in) I would have kept the gift. I wouldn't have ever worn them but I would have kept the gift. It's just not my look. For me it wasn't a practical gift. Not that I am not thankful. I truly appreciate his thoughtfulness and I would have kept them if they fit. It's just not a gift I would really ever use. In my head for the same price I could have had a really amazing handbag or jewelry. He gives wonderful gifts. They were beautiful boots. They just were not my style.

For his Christmas I haven't even started. I purchased PTO hours that I plan to sell back so once I have that then I'll be figuring out what to get him for Christmas. I know for a fact that he would love an Ipad, I just don't know that the amount back from cashing in the PTO hours will be enough.

5 Minutes

Last week was interesting. Monday I had to go to the dentist for my temporary crown. There is a tooth that has had 3 root canals and I finally had the temporary crown put in place.

Tuesday night I had my meeting. I gave the program. I used the slogan "easy does it". When I first sat down my original intention was to use the topic of anger. Instead I found that slogan in 2 different readings and felt that this was the topic that was my better choice.

I went into the meeting frustrated. I left feeling lighter.

Al-Anon is for the families or friends of those affected by problem drinking. The only requirement for membership is that there be the problem of alcoholism/addiction in a family member or friend.

There are many meetings offered at many times during the day. I have found a Tuesday night meeting that I love that I go to each week. We all take turns signing up for the program, and we choose a topic, read al-anon conference approved literature, and then we open the floor for others to share how they have applied, for example, easy does it, in their own experience. Or even how they haven't and how it might help them in the future.

I started attending my meeting end of October last year. In some ways it's hard for me to believe that a year has almost passed. Pretty much on a daily basis I say thank God for Al-Anon. It has given me the opportunity to figure myself out.

I have 2 books that are daily readers. I love them. They help keep me in check.

Wednesday night I cleaned the office and then headed home.

Thursday night the weather was so gorgeous. It was and is gorgeous right now and I am so thankful!!! I took Jack out for a run and it was amazing!!!

Friday night I picked up Girl Clean. We were in the car talking and I told her when we got home she might want to check her shoe drawer. As soon as she walked in the door she made a bee line to her drawer. She had all the shoes out and was trying them on, it was too cute!!!

Saturday morning I took Jack for a walk. The gorgeousness of the weather is fabulous!!! I got home and changed and got Girl Clean ready for ballet. After ballet we picked up her Dad, he'd taken his car for some maintenance and then we headed to pick up Jack's heartworm medicine and to lunch.

Last year I talked about how we went to New Bern for my birthday weekend. While we were there Mr. Clean ate a huge burger and all the fries and the burger was free. That same restaurant has opened a location in Harrisburg. Mr. Clean wanted to be the first one to finish the burger. He called his family and they met us at the restaurant.
He ate the whole thing. Again. It's his "thing" and he was excited. He was also sick for the rest of the day. I went to church solo that night.

Yesterday I tackled my 8 mile run. I was in a horrible mood when I woke up; I had 0 desire to do the run. Once I got out and got started I was fine. In fact at the end I even added a little and did better then 8. I was in a much better mood once I was finished.

I was thinking during my run. I might not be happy with my current size. I might in fact be very frustrated. I am still making myself run. I am still making myself go to the gym. I have finally, hopefully, had a breakthrough with Mr. Clean regarding dinner and the fact that I don't need/want him to cook for me. I think I may be able to get back to my happy size again.

I got home and we talked about what we wanted to do. It was just too gorgeous to stay inside so we took Jack and Girl Clean to the park. It was awesome!!!

Yesterday evening I was super excited!!!! Lisa was flying in and I was picking her up. I had a plan in my head for a Mexican place but poor planning on my part and I didn't actually know where it was. Instead we went to one of my favorites, Cabo. SO yummy!!!! It worked out just fine!

I am thrilled I got to catch up with her!!!! She's going to be in Charlotte for work a few more times so I'm hoping I get to do this again soon!

Last week I was so frustrated and negative that every time I sat down to write I just had to delete everything. This week has already started off a 1000 times better!!!

Happy Monday!!!!

Friendship, Running Sugar

I hope everyone had a great night!! Last night I was reminded that my true friends let me use them as sounding boards even when I know that I may be acting over the top and my text messages and emails can be ridiculously dramatic. These past several months I know I've written a lot about the ups and downs of dating and learning about me and I have definitely gone to friends for advice and to occasionally be talked of the ledge of crazy. I talked to PMG last night because I needed to run something by her. Her response reminded me that I am truly blessed by my friendships that I have. I am so thankful for my friends who I have known forever who know me well enough to call me out and question me and love me and support me. I'm also thankful for the friendships I've made through this blog. I've had the opportunity to meet Jess first through her blog and then in person, to reconnect with Hailey, and there are others who I talk to and I feel lucky. I'm fortunate that I've met you through your blogs and had the opportunity to get to know you because in my opinion we see inside each other's lives and in a lot of cases inside each other's heads. Jess always says it's pre-screening friendships and that is really true! I gain followers and then I lose them and I'm never sure why but I have to let it go. I love my followers and appreciate that y'all read and comment and make me feel special. When it comes down to it I write for me and I would rather lose a follower then not write what I'm thinking or feeling. I know I go through and edit my list of blogs that I follow on a regular basis. It's nothing personal and I have to keep that in mind with my own list of followers. However, those of you I consider my friends I would hope y'all would let me know why you were mad or upset or not liking the blog anymore instead of just dropping off my list!!
Moving on…. Last night I was able to get the place straightened up and I made it to the gym. I need to clean the bathroom but I figure I can get that done on Wednesday. I ran 3 miles last night my final mile I ran at an 8:40 pace which made me very happy!!! I struggle sometimes with motivation but once I'm running I feel great. It's just getting myself out the door to actually go!! Since I've started pushing my pace I've noticed this is helping me to actually move the scale in the right direction. If I would cut out the ridiculous amounts of sugar that I eat I would probably see even more of a difference!! I've been making the effort to be more calorie conscious but that just means I track the candy and sweets in addition to my regular food and cut out the regular food when I've eaten too much candy and when you're trying to train for a race this is self defeating. So I'm kind of working on it, kind of not. I gave away all the marshmallows that I bought that I posted about here. I brought the brownies that I made Sunday in to work yesterday to share. I have the best of intentions and then I hear the candy bucket calling…

1/2 way thru & 3 days til the 13.1

I realized yesterday morning that I have a LOT to get done before I'm off this Friday and then I will only be in the office 1 1/2 days next week because of a class that I'm taking. Therefore I'm on a bit of a blog break in order to get everything done!
I found out that my friend who I am staying with over the weekend has a friend who is running the 13.1 so I now have someone to ride down with, and she's the one driving. I'm thrilled!!! I was actually very nervous about trying to navigate and find parking the day of the race. My friend who I am staying with has also offered to pick up my race packet for me on Friday. I emailed her a copy of my drivers license and she's taking care of that for me so I don't have to stress about it on Friday. I'm SO thankful!!! So everything has come together beautifully for this weekend and I am beside myself with happiness!!!
It's a rainy day here in Charlotte and I'm thankful for that. We went so many weeks without rain that it's wonderful to see it again!! Tonight will be the only run I do this week before the 1/2. I walked Jack Banner last night. He had way too much energy from being cooped up and last night the weather was beyond gorgeous!!
I have the world's best chiropractor and I went last night to have him work on my neck. It had been way too many weeks since I was there and I could so tell. He and his wife just had a baby girl so I had fun on Tuesday night picking out the baby present. It is way too much fun to shop for baby girl clothes!! I got baby girl a beautiful pink and brown blanket that was unreal soft, a little fleecy jacket for the upcoming cool weather and then a little purple and brown outfit set that was ohhhhh so cute!!!! The doc said his wife was going to love everything and I really hope so because I had so much fun with it!!
Hope that everyone is doing well!!! Happy Wednesday!!

Cavities, Good run, and Plans

I appreciate a short week!! It's already Wednesday!! Yesterday I had to leave work early for a dentist appointment. S had cleaned my teeth in June so lucky for me yesterdays cleaning went super fast. Unfortunately they told me I have 2 cavities I have to get filled. It's what happens when you haven't been in a year and a half and you love sugar! I'll be going back to get those filled.
After that appointment I met my parents and Godparents out for dinner and said goodbye to the Godparents. I went to the gym and had a wonderful 4 mile run. After the disappointing run Saturday I am so glad I had a good one last night!! It definitely helps me and gives me hope for this coming Saturdays run!! I think I'm going to back off the weights with my legs on Thursday and see if that will also help.
Tonight I have to work at the restaurant. The hardest part about this new job is the fact that we are not allowed to have cell phones on the floor. I am so unbelievably spoiled when it comes to this. I like always having my phone with me, I'm kind of addicted!
Nothing further has been heard from the monkey guy (Miss K's nickname for him) from Saturday night. Just as well, I'm good with this. This Saturday night I will be out with my friend NH. We haven't seen each other since 4th of July weekend so we have some catching up to do!! I like having something to look forward to and it will be my last free Saturday until October.

Saturday Run

I woke up early yesterday morning and the temperature was perfect!! I set off and enjoyed the beautiful scenery as I ran. I have to say I had more fun mapping out that route then actually running it. Unintentionally I chose a route that was rolling hills and it was tough and I also realized that I did not eat enough calories this week to sustain an 11 mile run. I hit a wall toward the end and it was so hard to finish. I took a lot of walk breaks and my overall time was less than stellar. But I did finish it and it is over and I know that I need to start doing a better job with my nutrition. My body can't do these long runs if I'm not eating and I've been so freaked out about gaining weight this time around while training that I have had days where I eat horribly but for the most part I'm keeping a tight control over the daily calories. It's such a balance and unfortunately I'm not the best at it.
I ran errands yesterday and came back for a nap then I had to get ready. My friend/former coworker/insurance agent, was getting married and I was so excited!!! She looked amazing, stunningly beautiful!!! The ceremony was at the Belk Chapel on the Queens campus. The reception was at the Mint Museum. Food stations where set up throughout the museum as well as tables and chairs. The cake was the most amazing cake I've ever seen. I may say that because it was white chocolate and chocolate shavings all over with strawberries. I didn't get a piece of the cake but I imagine it was heavenly. The food consisted of a spinach and artichoke dip, baked brie, chicken breast with some kind of cheese and sundried tomatoes and then upstairs they had a mashed potato bar and a carving station with roast beef and turkey. It was open bar, beer, wine and liquor. So I made sure I drank a water in between my drinks and I also mainly stuck to Miller Lite in order to maintain. The after party was at Mez in the epicenter. It was so much fun!!! I will say that my 4 inch heels that I wore ALL NIGHT LONG really hurt. If feels like I'm going to lose toe nails and my feet are killing me today!! We danced and laughed and talked. There was a very hot 6'6 groomsman who I flirted and danced with. He's a wild man so I was forewarned but he was awfully fun to dance with!!! I have pictures that my friend VB is going to send me of my outfit. Even having to talk to my former bosses was fine, it was cordial.
I cabbed it home and was in bed by 2. I had the best time! I love weddings!!!

New Restaurant, Girl's Day, Running

Monday night I had my second training night at the new restaurant. I still just don't feel all that comfortable with the new place. I can't tell if it's just sadness over the old restaurant closing or if there is genuinely a reason why I need to look someplace else. I don't know I just don't feel "good" about this new place. I'm hoping that once I get settled in it will be ok. A part of this is because the hostess I worked with Monday night told me that they are not that great about granting requests off. She had requested the weekend off but was scheduled Saturday night and Sunday. The good news is the others will help shift things around and switch out but I have been so spoiled by always having my requests granted. We'll see maybe it's just my emotions this week that are so all over the place contributing to this.
Tuesday I was up and ready and I drove up to the mountains. I stopped over in Purlear to pick up my college roommate and we drove on up to Boone. I was blessed to have the opportunity to go to school at App State and I was blessed to work at the bridal store. I was also blessed to have met my college roommate and my other roommate (for just a few weeks my last summer there) MG. I met these girls along with one of their friends for a girl's day. THJ and I arrived early to visit with DC at the bridal store where we worked. We have made it a yearly visit where we go up to have lunch with her. Yesterday DC had a few things to get done so we decided to go walk around campus. It is an odd feeling to walk on the grounds and see all the new buildings. I felt no older than the students walking to summer classes and yet I know that I have had so many life experiences since those days of classes and student life. My roommate had a Facebook status about feeling old because it's August and she's not going back to school. I thought about the fact that it has been 9 years since I graduated. I can look back and see where time goes and yet I feel no older, wiser yes, but older not really. Campus has grown and there are so many more students now then when I attended. Boone is such a small town and it is overflowing with people. I always thought it was crowded when I was there but that is nothing compared to know. I'm thankful I attended when I did and I'm glad that I didn't attend now. With the football successes the school has had football weekend home games are more insanely crowded than ever. JL will be back in NC for several of the football games. There's a chance I might go to one this year. I haven't been to a game since I went with him back in 2007. We had lunch at Macadoo's on King St. and DC joined us. We shared chips and queso and each ordered a sandwich from the huge list of sandwiches. Then DC had to go back to work but we stayed and sat and talked for a few more hours. I'm sure the waitress wanted her table back, fortunately it was slow and they had plenty of other tables available. We all spent our fair share of hours at this popular hangout. It's where Alumn always feel that they must visit because so many memories have been made and beers shared! Now they serve liquor drinks, which has only happened within the past 5 years. Even with the opportunity to order a mixed drink we opted for the 3.99 pitcher of Bud Light special. $1 a piece, we were up for that! After many stories revisited we each made our way back to our cars. I drove THJ back to her parent's house; they kept Little K for the day so THJ could enjoy the visit minus her 3 year old.
Driving home I had a lot of time to think. I thought of the past and the future and where I am now. I thought of where I've been and where I would like to be. I had serious questions about decisions I might make or choices I might choose. I thought of trying one more time and if that's unrealistic and just downright dumb. I drove by the vineyard where I will be going for my birthday. My friend VB told me about a day with a winemaker and it sounded like so much fun. So VB, Miss K, my brother and SIL and hopefully MG will be travelling to the vineyard to enjoy the day. I think it's the perfect way to spend the day!
I made it to the gym last night. Arms, squats, lunges, and then I ran 3 miles. My knees are bothering me. I have a chiropractor appointment Thursday and I plan to talk to him about this. There is pressure in the front part of my knees. I can't figure out if it's my shoes or something else. I just bought my shoes in the middle of May and it's only the start of August so I can't imagine that I've worn them out already. I'll have a better idea after talking to my amazing chiropractor!
I work again at the restaurant tonight. I run the book, it should be easy. I'm very good at what I do so I have no worries. I am trying to reign in my all over the place emotions. I have no reason to feel so sad and I have a job to do, crying at the desk is just not an option!! It's Wednesday this week is half way through already, craziness!!!

4 Miler Disappointment

Last night I worked. I was supposed to close but my sweet co-hostess agreed to close for me. I may or may not have promised to bring BoJangles to her today while she worked the day shift... I woke up this morning at 4:45 because Jack Banner needed to go out. Then I woke up again in order to get ready. I was out the door by 6:40. I was at the race by 6:55. I met up with my friend KCH to run this 4 mile race. I don't remember last year being quite so hot or quite so hilly. When I took Jack out at 4:45 it was 80 degrees. By the time the race started at 7:30 it was STILL 80 degrees. Ridiculously hot and humid!!! I started off too fast so I cramped. It was uphill to start. My first mile I was at 9:40ish, I think... Overall my time 10.04 minute mile, awful!!! I ran the same race last year at a 9:48 overall pace, ugghhh it totally made me mad at myself today.
I came home cleaned the bathroom did some laundry and then decided I needed to go to the pool to try and help my pasty white casper self. I had an appointment at the new restaurant at 2 to go in and talk to them about scheduling. I think I'm really going to love the new restaurant. It's traditional Italian but the atmosphere of the restaurant feels very Miami. I'm excited it's closer to uptown and there is more of a mix of people. I've determined my last day at the old restaurant will be Saturday. I'm only giving a week notice but they are only open 3 more weeks I think they can handle life without me.
Tonight Miss K and I are hanging out. Currently The Holiday is on and we're enjoying Pina Coladas!!

Thursday Run

Yesterday was one of those days at work where I kept hoping for a new post to pop up in my reader. I was soooo trying to keep myself busy. After work I knew I had to get my run/workout in a little earlier than usual because I had plans with my friend KH. She was working at the restaurant and wanted to grab a drink afterwards. I had suggested she just come by my house and she agreed so I knew she would be arriving around 8:30 and I needed to be home and showered before then.
I got to the gym around 7, it's usually still crowded around that time but last night I sucked it up and prepared to deal with it. Fortunately (I guess since it was a Thursday night and we have all the summer outdoor concerts) it wasn't that busy. I was able to get strength training in for my arms. I decided not to do legs since I have my 4miler on Saturday and I would like to have a good run. Then I did 3 miles on the treadmill. This time I started off slow and worked my way up and finished at (for me) an excellent pace. I was running around an 8:10 minute mile. Of course that was only for about 2 minutes. I progressively bumped up my pace starting at a 10:30 minute mile, then 10, then 9:40 and then at about 15 minutes I started moving it up a notch every so often. I love the treadmill for pushing harder because I don't have a watch and when I run outside I don't have a way to gauge time. Plus at 7 it's still pretty hot so even in the air conditioning I was OH SO disgusting!!!
I arrived home, showered, sat and talked to Miss K. KH arrived and we talked and caught up with each other. It was great conversation catching up on what has been going on. She didn't leave til after 10 so this morning I was definitely dragging when the alarm went off at 5:40. I close tonight at the restaurant, hopefully it won't be too late! Last week I was actually out before 11 I'm hoping for a repeat of that tonight!

Work, Sunday, Moving On

I hope that everyone had some fun over the weekend!! Saturday night at the restaurant we were busy. Not slammed, not on a wait but steadily busy from 6:30 until about 9:30. I was scheduled to close so I didn't leave until almost 11, technically as closer I should have had to have stayed til 11 but I was given permission to leave at 10:40. When you go to bed during the week around 10/10:30 having to stay up past that point working is tough. Mainly because I think in my almost 2 years of working at this restaurant I can count on one hand the number of Saturday nights I've had to close. I've been extraordinarily fortunate in how the schedule comes out and how often I've switched out with another host or hostess in order to not have to close, yes I am that coworker.
I was in bed by 11:30 Saturday night and Sunday morning I fully intended to wake up early and go for a 6 mile run. Well when it was time to get up I hit snooze and hit snooze until 9. Since I was in the nursery I knew I didn't have to be at church right at 10 (not that this is something I do well even when I’m not in the nursery) so I knew that I didn't have to do much in the way of getting ready. I threw my hair up on top of my head, functional and cool!! I put on some old yet still nice capris and an old yet still nice sweater and headed out the door after applying a little makeup. Nursery was not overrun and as usual I had a lot of fun. I've been a part of this church my entire left. I left for a few years but went back and yesterday while in nursery I couldn't help but think about all the little ones who I've kept who are now adults. One of the mom's has 2 little girls and I remember when the mom was born. She is the younger sister of one of the girls that I grew up with in school. Her 2 are oh so much fun and part of the reason why I always enjoy nursery duty these days. Then there is little miss who if you're friends with me on Facebook there's a picture from last July of me holding a baby in my pictures of me. She is now walking and is still the sweetest girl. I read books and helped with puzzles and played with blocks. The main goal is to keep everyone occupied and distracted and most importantly happy!!
After church I went over to my friend AES's new house. She's the younger sister of CF and she is truly like my own little sister. She and SS married last October and they closed on their first house this past Thursday. The house is really beautiful with arches and open space and it's all new and exciting. I'm thrilled for them. It was awesome to sit down and catch up with her! I made sure I was long gone before CF and his wife were even close to arriving. I found out that he's moving to Columbia, SC and sold the townhome that he lived in while he and I were dating. It was the place where I contributed so much and hearing that it has been sold means that whenever I pass that way on my way to our lake house I will no longer think of who lives off that exit. I caught up on all of her family's news and caught her up on what's been going on with me.
I arrived home and took just over a 2 hour nap on the couch with Jack Banner. I woke up and it was storming outside my window. I waited a bit, checked email and blogs and the rain passed. The rain cooled things off and even though the humidity was thick there was a wonderful breeze! I planned a 6 mile route, mapmyrun.com is one of my very favorite running tools. I go on and figure out where I'm going to run and how long it will be. Last night I took a route that I knew would be quite a bit of hills. I haven't really done that many hills since the April 10K. I left my neighborhood and then the uphill climb began. It was uphill until I reached the turning road and then it was flat for a bit until the next uphill climb began. These are more rolling hills then anything steep but it's still noticeable. I made it down the connector road to the next road and I forced myself to run until the intersection then I decided that I was done. When I went back I figured out that I had run 5 and walked 1 and with the route that I did I'm happy. My motivation is kind of lacking since I'm not really training for anything big at this point. This is intentional on my part because of my schedule. This week tonight I'm going to the going away dinner for the manager of the bridal store where I've helped out a few times over the past few weeks. Then I work at the restaurant Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So last night was my only night to get a run in for a while. Waking up early is not an option I just physically know that I am unable to wake up in time to get a run in, because I would have to wake up at about 4:30 or earlier and that's just not doable for me. My next race is July 24 and it's a 4 miler. As long as I keep running whenever I get the chance I will be fine. I'm not sure that I'll even set any goals for this one simply because I'm not sure what the temperature will be. I don't run well when it's oppressively hot. This race starts at 7:30 and it could potentially already be super hot by the time it starts. So we'll see. I love these shorter races because they're fun and it keeps me motivated to keep running. The next longish race will be a 10K in September so probably mid July or August I will start pushing myself to build up my mileage again. It's very much mental as I know I've run 13.1 before and I know I can again, right now I just don't "want" to. This is why I need to sign up for half because nothing forces you to train like knowing that if you don't train properly you're going to want to die :).
I returned from my run and talked to S, he was on his way back from Atlanta. He had a great time with his brother and I enjoyed having a Sunday where I was able to catch up with my friend and take a nap and get a run in. After he and I hung up I checked email and blogs and facebook one more time. JL caught me on FB and chatted for a minute. He wanted to let me know he was dating someone and I really appreciate the fact that he told me before he changed his status from "Single" to "In a relationship". I'm very well aware of the reasons why he and I don't work as a couple but it doesn't change the fact that he is someone special to me. I know that he specifically waited to change that until he told me and I'm thrilled that he's dating someone and is happy! The way I feel about this news let's me know that I really am in a good place, it didn't hurt my feelings, it wasn't even bittersweet, I'm just happy that he's met someone and is moving on.
After my long nap yesterday it was kind of difficult to fall asleep. Add to this that Jack was sleeping on my legs and I didn't want to disturb him I woke up sore and still tired. After 2 cups of coffee I'm finally feeling awake but I think I might have to splurge on a 3rd cup in order to get me through!
